yeast overgrowth + sinus infection?

My boyfriend and I have had two yeast infections in the past six months. Also, coincidentally, we have both been feeling not so great in the past year. Both of us suffer from symptoms such as abdominal pains, sinus problems, chronic phlegm, difficulty concentrating, mood swings, etc.
Anyways, I’ve recently started researching a yeast (candida) overgrowth and it seems to fit our symptoms very well. We both plan on acting to cure this problem immediately.
HOWEVER, he just went to the ENT (ear nose throat) doctor today and was diagnosed with a sinus infection that apparently has been there for months. He was prescribed antibiotics. MY CONCERN is that if he does have a yeast overgrowth, antibiotics will only make it worse!!! Do you think he should discontinue taking the antibiotics until we get this all figured out? I’m worried ![]()
I can sympathize with you and your boyfriend because I’ve been on and off strong antibiotics over the past year for respiratory infections, and usually end up with a yeast infection once I’ve finished the antibiotic. Instead of taking more meds to cure the yeast infection, I’ve been cutting out foods with excess sugar from my diet and increasing my intake of vitamins C, A, E, and B, as well as zinc. I actually just came across an interesting article that you may want to check out also: http://aboutwomenshealthissues.com/should-vitamins-be-used-to-treat-candida-yeast/2009/ Perhaps you and your boyfriend should get a second opinion and discuss with the doctor about the benefits of increasing vitamin intakes to treat and prevent future yeast infections. It couldn’t hurt to ask anyway. Hope you both get feeling better soon!

If you live in New Zealand come and get scanned at my clinic, you could have many conditions going on at once that can imitate candida. I have scanned people who have spent a fortune on candida remedies like lamasil, canestan etc and they have other fungal things going on along with other bits. Once on the right track they really improve.Email me at z.hoyte@xtra.co.nz

yes, should continue the antibiotic. perhaps you should see his doctor and do the same.
after you finish the course of antibiotic, then take probiotics. lots of them for about 6 months. purchase from a health food store from the refrigerated section only.

Better to take the antibiotics. Untreated sinus infections can lead to complications.
Through blocking the Eustachian tube (leads from the back of the nose to the middle ear) it can affect both the inner ear and the middle ear and sometimes lead to a auditory impairment in severe cases.
. Rarely, a sinus infection may spread to nearby areas such as around an eye, into adjoining bones
We used to offer patients on antibiotics blue cheese or live yogurt with their main meals. Also added sugar and sweet foods were cut out of their diet.
