i think i have a yeast infection because i have been itching and my discharge has an odor that almost smells like beer.. i am not totally sure but I was just wondering if it was bad to use an over the counter cream or medication if you werent totally sure it is a yeast infection. I have been taking an antibiotic for my acne for a while now and i think that may be what has caused it also i have been outside alot in the heat so that could also be a factor.
My gyno says they work great and reccommends them (and they do, I have used many times) but you have to know its def a yeast infection. There are a couple other infections that are not yeast and you have to get a prescription from your doc so it’s best to make an appt or at least just call to be 100% sure.

Worked for me.
Eat yogurt with live cultures in it.

The OTC yeast infection medicine is a topical treatment. its a cream you put inside. Its fine to take. They also sell a little test that will tell you what kind of infection you have in there. Take a look in that section.

OTC treatments have never done anything for me.
I’d see a doctor, just so they can make sure it’s not something else. They can also give you a pill that is so much easier to deal with than the creams.

Antibiotics can cause Thrush. But over the counter creams are good give you instant relief you can also get an oral tablet if you are un comfortable with apply the cream.

The antibiotic is absolutely what caused it. If it is not terribly painful, just drink lots of water and cranberry juice-try to find one that has no added sugar and eat lots and lots and lots of yogurt with live and active cultures. Those cultures are exactly what was in your body to keep everything balanced but the antibiotic kills all bacteria, even the good ones. Do the over the counter creams as a last resort because they are messy, icky, uncomfortable and did I mention icky? Also, I used Monistat cream once and had a violent allergic reaction to it. There are medications you can get from your doctor as well that will knock that right out but it’s expensive.

Antibiotics have the tendency to kill all bacteria, as well as the "good" natural bacteria the body produces in that area that causes the irritations and can lead to yeast infections. The yogurt containing probiotics is a good suggestion or you could try the Acidophilus supplements from the pharmacy during the course of your antibiotic treatment.
Using an OTC treatment is alright, but if you are going to be on this antibiotic I would suggest adding the yogurt to your diet rather than using a medication.

OTC yeast Infection may cause recurring yeast infection, so you want to consider some natural remedy for a yeast infection. I have included some below:
1)Drink at least six glasses of water each day. Water helps to remove toxins
2)Aloe Vera Juice twice per day is very good for detoxifying the body from all infections including vaginal yeast infection because it strengthens the immune system.
3)Mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with water and drink it. This kills all the bad bacteria in the body and you can even lose weight in the process. Don’t do this more than 1 to 3 times per week.
4)Eat yogurt on a daily basis. It contains the good kind of bacteria, Lactobacillus Acidolhylus , that is found in the body.
5)Take acidophilus or bifidus pills each day. This helps to encourage the good bacteria in the body. Make sure you keep these pills stored in a refrigerator for freshness.
6)Take Vitamin C tablets daily. This helps to build the immune system to protect it against infections. The Vitamin C and Acidophilus tablets when taken, naturally produces hydrogen peroxide in the body and strengthens to fight infection even more.
7)Make sure you consult your doctor if you are taking prescription drugs
8)Drink Alka Seltzer in water once each day for about 3 or 3 days
9)Drink some cranberry juice each day. Don’t add any sweetener.
10)Eat raw cranberries, if you can
Below are a few EXCELLENT sources that you can get more information. I highly recommend them to you. You do need to at least know more about yeast infection cures that are natural and not rely on OTC yeast infection cures.
